Being a police dog made Athena a very on guard and driven dog. She was thought to be annalist and alert in any situation. K -9 officers work hard for their community, often, they help in locating missing persons, mostly a child or elderly. Then there is canines like Athena who mostly sniff out drugs, bombs and help to apprehend suspects. Being such type of police dog made this female permanently stressed and suspicious. K-9 officers are often facing dangers like threatening gun fires, knives along with other sharp and dangerous weapons these criminals can get a grab on.
Athena was chosen from her litter to become who she is today because of her drive and her obedience. She passed the police officers tests with such ease it impressed them. They decided to name her Athena, a name she lives up to, meaning goddess of wisdom and warfare. She earned many ribbons and badges for her loyalty, courage and efficiency. This german shepherd is very active and is always on the go. Once she has decided to do something, she rarely will back down from her decision and she acts quickly, getting the job done.
HISTORY:
Athena was born from a female german shepherd and a male german shepherd, making her a purebred. Both her parents were canine police officers, making their pups possible future workers. At the age of three months Athena remembers a few human officers entering the nursing home they lived in. The took each one of her brothers and sisters, and herself and tested them all one by one. They mainly looked for a puppy with interest in humans and with some obedient and tracking skills.
At the age of three months she was taken away from her mother and given to a woman who was a police officer. Athena was entered in basic obedience classes, which she passed with excellence. She also had to also make it through endurance and agility training. The dog must be able to jump over walls and climb stairs. Now that Athena was a fully trained and obedient dog, the police department started her specialty training ; a mixture of searching and protection. She was trained to find drugs, bombs, humans and to protect her human partner. Athena did feel like she was thought many things, and felt happy knowing to do so much and accomplishing things.
Julie, Officer Athena's partner, was a great person to work with. Athena had spent almost three years with her, stopping the criminals and preventing crimes. One day they got a call for a suspect who had injured a police officer and ran in the woods. Julie got Athena all hyped up and ready to go for it as they drove towards the scene. As soon as they got on sight the human tied the leash to the the german shepherd and they ran off in the woods. Athens sniffed the ground until she caught the scent. As soon as she did she pulled harder on her leash, wanting to get the runner.
Julie could see the suspect and yelled at him to stop and surrender, but he kept on running. She unleashed Athena as she ordered an attack. Years of training kicked in and the german shepherd ran off after the guy. She could smell him clearly but as she came through the trees, she ended up at a cliff. Puzzled, the k9 officer looked down at the waves smashing against the rocky landscape. She didn't know what to do. She didn't want to give up, that human can't be that far. The scent was disappeared, she had no more lead on this one.
Athena growled in disappointment and turned back heading where Julie has unleashed her. As she got to that location, Julie was nowhere to be found. The female german shepherd barked loudly and waited for a yell, nothing. This was very strange and she was getting very worried ; never had Athena and her partner be separated, it was a rule. She looked around and came to accept the fact that Julie was gone. But where to? The police station? Home? Athena was heading back in the city to try to find her partner, dead or alive, she wanted to know.
As Athena made her way back out of the woods, she saw the other police patrol cars and the other police officer who, as soon as they saw her, tried to call her back. The german shepherd was thought to only obey one person, and that was Julie. She ran back off into the woods thinking her partner would still be in there and possibly in danger. She searched the wooden area for a day and a half, scanning every inch in it, nothing. Julie had disappeared.
